Happy Birthday Dad!

It’s my Dad’s birthday today; he is a spry 76. Dad is a musical man, as is my mom. They both really encouraged me to be a musical person, and were a big part of my eclecticism (that could be a new word) when it comes to musical styles. This blog is actually named what it is because some of my friends marched down our street and played on the lawn at my Dad’s 50th birthday.

When it comes to music, my tastes are pretty broad. When I was growing up my parents listened to classical, rock, jazz and even punk. I figured I would be a musician (and was professionally at one time), and so I soaked it all up. When I was about 14 or so, The Canadian Brass were coming to town. We didn’t have a lot of money but Dad took me to that concert, and it was amazing. Beautiful music, perfectly blended brass harmonies, and my first experience with live classical music in concert. I was hooked.

Happy Birthday Dad! I love you!
